HOLDEN – Bertha L. Chase, 92, formerly of Brewer and Bangor, died March 14, 2007, at a Bangor health care center. She was born Dec. 18, 1914, in Caribou, the daughter of Joseph and Alice (Butler) Hitchcock. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. “Bertie,” as she was known, enjoyed her lunches with her friends at the Holden Square and was a member of the Norumbega Rebecca Lodge. Surviving are one son, Archie Joseph Tracy and his wife, Darlene, of Clinton, Conn., and Texas; four daughters, Trudy Bryce and her husband, Roger, of Winter Haven, Fla., Rena Johnston and her husband, Robert, Lena Niemi, both of Tampa, Fla., and Betty-Lou Rawcliffe and her husband, James, of Trenton; 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grand-children, and one great-great-grandson. Bertha’s children truly appreciated all the love expressed by her grandchildren in so many different ways. She was predeceased by her husband, Millard Chase; three brothers, and four sisters. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 16, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where a funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, March 17, with the Rev. Peter Sprague, pastor of the Columbia Street Baptist Church, Bangor, officiating. Spring interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.
