STONINGTON – Betty A. Lawson, 77, died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, Blue Hill, after a courageous fight with cancer. She was born on Swans Island, the daughter of the late Oscar and Harriet (Lemoine) Johnson. A devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she enjoyed art, her animals, reading and the Harbor Gallery, where she managed for a couple of years in the early 1990s. She shared 52 years of marriage with the late, Calvin Wesley Lawson, who died in 2000. Family members include her children, Cynthia Coombs and husband, John, of Stonington, Kim Lawson and wife, Kathi, of Stonington, Debby Oliver and husband, Ben, of Stonington, Sally Pierce and husband, David, of Nobleboro, Trudy Higgins and husband, Mark, of Surry, and Todd Lawson and wife, Sarah, of Little Deer Isle; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Boyce of Deer Isle and Brenda Witham of Sebec; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Calvin Wesley Lawson Jr.; and a brother, Neal Johnson. A spring graveside service will be held at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery, Oceanville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ark Animal Shelter, P.O.
