NEWPORT and ELLSWORTH Betty H. Worthen, 91, passed away Jan. 22, 2008, at an Ellsworth health care facility. She was born Feb. 5, 1916, in Hodgdon, a daughter of Murdoch and Clara (Hand) Hatfield. Betty graduated from Stetson High School, Class of 1933. She married Leonard C. Worthen, Nov. 11, 1936. Betty worked in several capacities in the Newport school system for many years. She was a longstanding member of Peoples United Methodist Church, Newport, serving as a Sunday school teacher. She also attended Bangor Pentecostal Assembly. She was a member of H. G. Libby Women’s Relief Corps, and a trustee of Coboro Cemetery Association, Stetson. Betty will be remembered for her quilts and needlework, and was also an avid reader. She is survived by a son, Dale Worthen, Esq. and wife, Patricia, of Ellsworth; four grandchildren, three great-granddaughters, several nephews; and a niece, Sheila (Hunter) Stone of Florida. She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard, in 1988; and by her daughter, Darlene Ciciotte, in 1992. She was also predeceased by three brothers, Maurice, Linwood and Hubert; and a sister, Frances Hunter. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St., Newport, with Pastor Al H. Worden officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home noon until the time of services. A spring committal service will be held at the funeral home prior to burial at Riverside Cemetery, Newport.
