WHITNEYVILLE – Betty L. Varney, 78, passed away Nov. 13, 2007, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born Jan. 2, 1929, in Jonesboro, the daughter of the late Leroy H. Lowe and M. Hazel (White) Lowe Watts. Betty retired after 20 years of service from K-Mart Corp., Skowhegan. She was a member of the Eastern Star Machias Chapter No. 83. Betty adored her family and loved the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered as “Gram Betty.” She is survived by her children, Caron Kilton and husband, Richard, Gail Johnson and husband, Earl, all of Whitneyville, Bryant Varney and wife, Elaine, of Revere, Mass., Kimbly Rendell of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Esther Tozier and husband, David, of Crawford; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Charlotte DeVincentis, Natalie Catalona and husband, Angelo, all of Pennsylvania, Leta Smith, of Jonesport, Mary McNeil and husband, Fred, of Jonesboro, Dale Lowe and wife, June, of Skowhegan, and Linda Varney and husband, James, of Jonesboro; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin Varney, in 1993; and a grandson, Tony Dennison, in 2001. As per Betty’s request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Foundation, Attention Gift Processing, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301. Arrangements are under the care of Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Machias.
