HARRISBURG, Pa. – Beverly Allen Gevers, 74, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007. Born Sept. 14, 1933, in Hudson, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Leon and Clara Allen. A homemaker and wife of 41 years, Beverly had worked as a newspaper reporter and photojournalist for the Newburgh Evening News and Middletown Times-Herald, until 1966. Among those she interviewed and photographed was baseball hall-of-famer, Roger Maris, of the New York Yankees. Beverly was married Aug. 8, 1966, to Alan Gevers, and continued to work as a freelance writer, publishing news, magazine and children’s stories, including, “”Ben Big-Enough,”” and “”A Time for Everything.”” Most recently, Beverly published an article about opera; one of her favorite pastimes, in the Harrisburg Patriot-News’ guest editorial column, As I See It. A member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Lower Paxton Township, Pa., she also served as a volunteer librarian at Dauphin County Library System’s East Shore Area Branch, Colonial Park, Harrisburg, Pa. Surviving Beverly are her husband, retired Harrisburg Area Community College biology professor, Alan I. Gevers; sons, Benjamin, Noel and Laurence; grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Mitchel, all of Harrisburg, Pa.; and brothers, Stan Allen of Phoenix and Leon Allen Jr. of Walden, N.Y. As Beverly was a summer resident of Franklin, funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Franklin Methodist Church. Interment will be held at Bayview Cemetery, Franklin, with a reception immediately after at Franklin VFW Hall, Route 182, Franklin.
