LAMOINE – Ethel Andrews (Knox) Hapworth passed away peacefully Oct. 12, 2007, at home with her family. Born Feb. 10, 1921, in Bar Harbor, to Martha (Murphy) and Frank Andrews, Ethel spent her childhood growing up in Bar Harbor. Ethel graduated from Bar Harbor High School in 1939. Ethel worked at Jackson Laboratory for 20 years, was a member of Union Church, Northeast Harbor and enjoyed many Saturday evenings with friends dancing the night away at Trenton Grange Hall and later at the Blue Goose. Ethel enjoyed ice fishing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, camping and gardening. An avid quilter, seamstress, knitter and crocheter, Ethel remained very busy sewing and knitting for her family. Surviving are her husband, James Hapworth of China; her sisters, Marie Murphy of Colorado and Sylvia “”Peggy”” Long of Augusta; her brother, Frank Andrews of Bangor; her daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret (Knox) and Gerald Hill of Lamoine and Sharon (Knox) and Charles Ashmore of Lamoine and Dade City, Fla.; her granddaughters and their husbands, Karen (Hill) and Matthew Dunbar of Tremont and Julie (Hill) and Karl Warner of Bar Harbor and Daytona Beach, Fla.; three grandsons, Ethan and Zachary Taylor and Kasch Warner; three stepdaughters and their husbands, Marie and Sherwood Kitchen of China, Barbara and Bill Flood of Florida and Polly Gill of Florida; their children and grandchildren. Ethel was predeceased by her ex-husband, Allen “”Zeke”” Knox. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at Forest Hill Cemetery, Northeast Harbor, with Pastor Robert Maddocks officiating.
