ALTON – Blanche C. Barnes, 80, passed away March 26, 2008, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born Oct. 29, 1927, the daughter of Leslie and Lula (Hitchborn) Lincoln. Blanche was a member of Alton United Methodist Church, where she was very active with the United Methodist Women. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Blanche was an avid reader, who enjoyed doing word searches, gardening, cooking and baking. She was well known for her wedding cakes. She will be sadly missed by her large extended family. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold E. Barnes Jr., in 1998; one son, Harold E. Barnes III, in 2001; and a sister, Irma Ellis. She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Barnes of Alton, and Jean Coughlin and husband, Rick, of Argyle Township; one son, Terry Barnes and his wife, Kim, of Alton; and Tiki, her beloved Pomeranian. Blanche is also survived by seven sisters, Isabelle Weston, Lois Strout and husband, Paul, Priscilla McPheters, Carolyn Reed and husband, Bob, Alice Dolley, Evelyn Robbins and husband, Ralph, and Doris Whitaker; four brothers, Charles Lincoln, Leslie Lincoln Jr. and wife, Susan, Jerry Lincoln and wife, Faith, and David Lincoln and wife, Wanda. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Rick Coughlin Jr. and Brandy Coughlin, Justin Barnes, Kari-ann Barnes, Rosanne Barnes, Kristen Barnes, T.J. Barnes; and three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Brooklyn and Everett; many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 4-6 p.m. Friday, March 28, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at Alton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Maria Guereca officiating. Interment will be held in the spring.
