REDDINGTON, Ind. – Blanche E. Turner, 86, passed away March 4, 2007, at the home of her son in Brown County, Ind. She was born in Bonne Bay, Newfoundland, to William and Annie May McKenzie Young. She moved to the United States at age six and lived in Maine, graduating from Bangor High School in 1938. In 1950 she moved to Columbus, Ind., and to Jackson County, in 1974. She retired from The Republic in 1971, after 171/2 years and later worked at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour, Ind., as a ward secretary. She was a member of Living Word Baptist Church and a former member of Shiloh Baptist Church and Taylorsville Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and served as treasurer. She and Terrell M. Turner Sr. were married June 5, 1965, at Taylorsville, Ind., by the Rev. Durward Hazzard. Mr. Turner died March 15, 2002. She enjoyed quilt making, crocheting, cross-stitch and jigsaw puzzles. She was an Indiana University basketball fan. Survived by one daughter, Cynthia Roxanne Hopkins of Seymour, Ind.; two sons, William S. Lord of Brown County, Ind., and Terrell M. Turner Jr. of Indianapolis; one sister, Annie Terrill of Hermon; four brothers, Dr. Edwin Young of Madison, Wis., Stanley Young of Hermon, Ellery, and the Rev. Robert Treadwell of Bangor; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband; a sister, Mary Berry of Florida; and a brother, Howard Treadwell of Maine. The funeral will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, March 8, at Jewell – Rittman Family Funeral Home with Robert Franklin officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, and 9 a.m. Thursday until service time. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
