ROCKPORT – Brenda Jean Laukka, 54, died unexpectedly March 8, 2004 at Maine Medical Center. Born in Rockland, she was the beloved daughter of Leo Laukka and Jean Knight Laukka. Educated locally, Brenda was a graduate of Rockland High School, and the University of Maine, with a major in Animal Sciences. Brenda owned and operated Unique One Sweater Shop, a fixture in downtown Camden for 28 years. Brenda was open and generous, and dedicated to her friends and family. She was best known for her love of animals. Brenda’s life was dedicated to fostering, training, and caring for unwanted pets. She was actively involved with the Maine Dog Agility Association and competed throughout New England. In addition to her parents, Brenda is survived by her brother, Bruce Laukka and his wife, Beth Laukka; her niece, Abigail Laukka-Hardy and her husband, Jonathan; her nephew, Benjamin Laukka, his wife, Heather and longtime friend, Frank Foss. She is also survived by her pets, Zack, Chelsea, Shannon, Taz, Grace, and Zoey. She will be deeply missed by all. Arrangements are being made through Burpee, Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Home. Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 12, at the First Congregational Church in Camden. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Humane Society of Knox County, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, ME 04841 in Brenda’s name.
