BATH – Brian C. Kelley, 56, of Andrews Road died Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at his home after a courageous battle with oral cancer. He was born June 26, 1947, in Portland, the eldest son of Merrill C. and Venetta A. Foss Kelley. He grew up in Jonesport and was educated in the local schools, graduating from Jonesport High School in 1965. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. In 1973 he graduated with a bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Maine at Machias. On July 28, 1973, he married Susan M. Betts of Thomaston, and made their home in Bath. He worked at Bath Iron Works as a pipe fitter, welder, and planner. His true gratification was for people, and was evident while working for Interim Health Care where he gave back to those who were in need. He was actively involved with Alcoholics Anonymous, Brunswick Area Cancer Support Group, and was a member of the Bath Lodge of Elks. His gifted talent was artistry. He enjoyed photography, winning many prizes, taking MidCoast area youthteam sports pictures, weddings, graduations, and free lance photos. He had a love and appreciation for the outdoors, enjoying camping at South Branch Pond in Baxter State Park and Abol Bridge Campground, kayaking the coastal and inland waters with his wife, and automobiles. He is fondly remembered for his great love of life and people, his commitment to his family, his sense of humor, and his kindness. He was predeceased by his father, Merrill C. Kelley, who died in 2002. Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Susan of Bath; a son, Jonathan Kelley of Mapleton; his mother, Venetta Kelley of Jonesport; a brother, Michael and his wife, Cindy Kelley, of Jonesport; and two nephews, Christopher Kelley of Portland, and Daren Kelley of Jonesport. Visiting hours will be 9-11 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004, at David E. Desmond Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath. A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Oak Grove Cemetery, Bath, with the Rev.
