SORRENTO and FORT MYERS, Fla. – Bruce Clark, 58, passed away unexpectedly June 16, 2006, at Fort Myers Beach, Fla. He was born Dec. 3, 1947, in Ellsworth, the son of Edwin C. Clark Jr. and Ruth (Sargent) Clark. Bruce graduated from Sumner High School where he proudly won the state high school basketball championship. He graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington, where he met and was married to the mother of his two sons for 20 years. Bruce taught and coached at various levels, but his true passion was outdoors and near the water. Bruce traded in his teaching degree and fished Frenchman’s Bay, lobstering summer and fall, scalloping in the winter. He grew up in Sorrento and returned after college to build his own home and raise a family there. He was an avid golfer and loved to build both carpentry projects and boats. Later Bruce moved to Florida and remained a passionate boater, fisherman and songwriter. A lifetime Red Sox fan, Bruce witnessed the miraculous 2004 season, and was optimistic that 2006 could once again prove magical. Bruce spent much time on Pine Island, where he had intended to spend his later years. He shared a kindred spirit with the plight of the fishermen of Pine Island, who suffered greatly from recent restrictions imposed by the state. Anyone who spoke to Bruce in the last year of his life knew about a new love in his life, his granddaughter, Serina Victoria. Bruce is survived by sons, Sean and Jason of Sorrento; by the mother of his two sons, Patricia Wise of Bar Harbor; beloved mother, Ruth of Sorrento; sister, Beth Clark and brother-in-law, Jim Bean of Sorrento; brother, Kevin of Sorrento; granddaughter, Serina; daughter-in-law, Maria. He also leaves former wife, Susie Clark; and many dear aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Edwin C. Clark Jr. in 1987. A celebration of his life will be held 4 p.m. July 16, at the Clark Family Shore, Sorrento. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an education fund for his granddaughter, Serina Clark.
