BRIDGEWATER – Alden Cleaves, 73, died Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at a friends residence. He was born Dec. 27, 1932, in Presque Isle, the son of Robert and Vella Cleaves. Arden graduated high school and then pursued a vocational degree in steam engineering. He used his degree while working many years as a steam engineer for the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital of Glendale, Calif. He also served his country in the U.S. Army, spending most of his enlistment time in Korea as a medic. He married Lulu Hartley Nov. 18, 1953, and they shared 45 wonderful years together. In his spare time, Alden enjoyed camping, fishing, fixing things, church clubs and donating his time to the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Presque Isle, to which he was a member. He is survived by a son, Stanley Cleaves of Valencia, Calif.; two daughters, Sandra C. Jochimsen of San Diego and Susan V. Cleaves of Palm Dale, Calif.; grandchildren, Angela, Andrea, Vanessa; great-grandchildren, Jose, Alexis, Destiny, Joseph; a brother, Arden and his wife, Loretta, of Marlboro, Mass.; a sister, Eleanor Nelson of Sandpoint, Idaho; mother-in-law, Myrtle Hartley of Presque Isle; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Lulu Cleaves. A memorial service will take place 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Presque Isle with the Rev. Mark Harris officiating. A private committal service will take place after the service at the church. Arrangements in care of Duncan Funeral Home, 8 Main St., Mars Hill.
