HANCOCK – Bruce Bennett Johnson died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, of an apparent heart attack at home. Born in Hamilton, Mass., he was the youngest of three to George Andrew and Elizabeth Louise (Feltis) Johnson. Bruce celebrated his 50th birthday last July on Flanders Pond with his wife, Janis Schroff-Johnson, and family. With a twinkle in his eye, and a childhood nickname of “Boo,” Bruce challenged us to view the world with imagination and integrity. Known primarily for his work in restoring and building unique homes in Hancock County, Bruce also worked for Wallace Moving and Storage for several years. Bruce and Janis recently moved into their new home, which Bruce designed and built as a labor of love for his wife and proof of his ingenuity and skill. His hobbies included repairing antique watches, creative writing, art and science fiction. His generous spirit and warm heart will be greatly missed by all. Bruce attended elementary schools in Hamilton, Mass., and graduated from Narraguagus High School in 1975. After a semester at University of Maine – Machias, he studied at Boston Architectural Center, until his return to Maine in 1977. In addition to his wife, Bruce is survived by his brother and family, Eric and Susan, and children, Nathaniel and Clara, of Southwest Harbor; his sister and husband, Candy and Rob Eaton of Sullivan; his wife’s son, Justin Schroff; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Karl Schroff of Westbury, N.Y.; and his wife’s siblings and their families. Visiting hours will be 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, with a celebration of remembrance 3 p.m. all at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth.
