BUCKSPORT – Bruce Wayne McDunnah, 66, died Jan. 9, 2007, at a Bangor hospital after a long illness. He was born July 28, 1940, in Castine, to Iris (Spurling) McDunnah and Gerald McDunnah of Bucksport. After graduating from Bucksport High School in 1958, he entered the U.S. Navy and flew all over the world while stationed at Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Md. Upon his discharge in 1963, he married Sandra Martens of Sandy Point and returned to Bucksport, where they built a home on the Silver Lake Road and raised four children, and where Bruce still lived at the time of his death. He began working at the Champion Paper mill in 1965, and worked there for 40 years until illness forced him to retire. He is survived by his longtime, loving companion, Clara Ward of Bucksport; and five children, Lori Gauvin and her husband, Gary, of Winterport, Douglas Spurling McDunnah and his wife, Kerri, of Bar Harbor, Michael George McDunnah of Washington, D.C., Kathleen Page McDunnah and her companion, Corey Sherwood, of Bucksport, and Jamie Ward, who he raised as his own; five grandchildren, Meghan McDunnah, Kelsey, Olivia and Bronwyn Gauvin, and Owen Bruce Sherwood; a brother, Floyd McDunnah and his wife, Sharon; a favorite niece, Vicki Lynn McDunnah; a nephew, Darren; and by Tina, his adored springer spaniel. Bruce was a true Mainer with a dry wit and a love of the outdoors. His happiest moments were spent at his camps in Argyle and Rangeley, hunting and swapping stories with his oldest friends. He was a huge presence in the lives of those who knew him, and we will miss him. Visitation for family and friends will be held noon-2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. Private interment will be at Riverview Cemetery, Bucksport.
