GREEN LAKE – Budd O. Spaulding, 84, husband of 53 years, to the late Barbara (Graves) Spaulding died June 16, 2006, at home. He was born Sept. 26, 1921, in Hampden, the son of Leon and Effie Spaulding. Bud was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was one of the first paratroopers to jump over the Rhine in 1945. He was wounded during the war, and received the Purple Heart as well as the Bronze Arrow Head, and many others. Budd worked for the Maine Central Railroad for 40 years. He was a well-known sportsman in Eastern Maine, noted for his specialty in fishing. He was also an amateur archeologist making many local discoveries of Native American Indian sites, and additionally a well-known mushroomer, as well as a private pilot. Budd is survived by one brother, Raymond Spaulding; one sister, Gloria Bullock; a number of “special friends,” including Bill and Terri Macdonald, Dave Gould, the Green Lake Friday night crew and his many friends from Green Lake, the railroad, and others who know who they are. Budd was predeceased by his brother, Owen Spaulding. Gifts in his memory may be made to the New Hope Hospice Building Fund, 1344 Main Rd., Eddington, ME 04428.
