GLENBURN – Calvert Arnold Lane, 67, died June 17, 2005, at his residence in Glenburn. He was born Aug. 6, 1937, in Bangor. His 20-year career began Nov. 2, 1954, when he voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Navy. During his career, he had served aboard the following ships and stations: USS SEVERN (AO-61), USS MULLINIX (DD-44), USS CAPRICORNIUS (AKA-57), USS AMPHION (AR-13), Reserve Fleet, Philadelphia, PA, USS OZARK (MCS-2), USS CADIMUS (AR-14), USS HANCOCK (CVA-19), USS AMERICA (CVA-66). While serving on the USS SEVERN, his two brothers, Beverly and Maynard, and brother-in-law, John Johnson, joined him. During his service he earned many awards, medals and letters of appreciation along with being the first non-commissioned officer to attend and graduate from the Main Propulsion Steam Generating Plant Inspection and Certification Program. Cal retired in August of 1974 with a rank of Boiler Repair Chief, (CPO). He was also a truck driver for more than 20 years. Cal was the 57th member of the Eagles in Brewer. Cal was a motorcycle enthusiast and one of three founders of the “Vulcan Riders Association”. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, wood working, and had traveled across the United States. He is survived by a son, Calvert “Rocky” Lane Jr. of Southwest Harbor; two daughters, Kimberly Kuchinski and husband, Jeff, of Bowdoin, Karyn McCarty of Somesville; four brothers, Beverly Lane and wife, Sharon, of Searsport, the Rev. Maynard Lane and wife, Pam, of Glenburn, Daniel Lane and wife, Carol, of Bangor, Tony Lane and wife, Marissa, of Glenburn; three sisters, Carlene Osborne and husband, Philip, of Bangor, Marilyn Harrison of Mississippi, Rachel Greene of Bangor; seven grandchildren, Jason Lane, Jamie Lane, Josie Hayward, Kane Kuchinski, Jessica Lane, Joseph Lane, Jenna Lane; and five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Ryan, Zachary, Travis, Amelia. Cal was predeceased by his parents, Emery and Bernice (York) Lane; two sisters, Marita Rose Lane and Marjorie Louise Ludwig. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Art Gowie, officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Glenburn.
