TREMONT and SOUTHWEST HARBOR – Carl C. “Bud” Lawson Jr., 83, died Jan. 9, 2005, peacefully at home with his family in Southwest Harbor. He was born Dec. 28, 1921, on Calf Island, the son of Carl C. and Daisy (Stockbridge) Lawson Sr. Carl worked at the shipyard in Boothbay during World War II. In his youth, he went to work on the islands with his father building weirs to catch herring. For many years he was the only scallop boat, fishing on Mount Dessert Island. Carl lobstered for many years. In his later years, he enjoyed monitoring the catch of the fishermen from the dock. He also enjoyed his animals. He is survived by his son, Tom Lawson and wife, Brenda, of Southwest Harbor; three daughters, Carlene L. and husband, James Graham, of Pownal, Candy L. and husband, Dan Herrick, of Bar Harbor and Penny L. Carter and special friend, Joe Hackett, of Lamoine; one brother, Ben Lawson of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Isabelle Forand of Massachusetts and Helen Butler of Bangor; eight grandchildren, Jamie, Matt, Katy, Stephen, Courtney, Trevor, Shane and Brooke; two great-grandchildren, Emily and David and his good friend, Eric Strauss, of Southwest Harbor. Carl was predeceased by a grandson, Joel Graham; one brother, and three sisters. Friends are invited to call 4-6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, 1139 Main St., Mt. Desert, where memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, with Father John O’Hara officiating. Spring interment will be at Hillrest Cemetery, Tremont.
