JACKSON – Carl Thomas Welch, 73, beloved husband of Berta “Betty,” passed away peacefully Feb. 1, 2007. He was born Feb. 10, 1933, in Knox. Upon graduating from Brooks Memorial High School, he began his 20-year career in the U.S. Army, where he served with distinction. He proudly served his country with a tour of duty in Vietnam. While stationed in Germany, Carl met the love of his life, Berta. They spent the next 52 years together raising their four children. He was a true Maine outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing and swapping tall tales out in the garage with the hunting crew. Carl also was a Red Sox and New England Patriots fan, celebrating their victories and always looking forward to the next season. In addition to his loving wife, Berta, he will be sorely missed by their children, Evelyn (Welch) Burguess, Michael Welch, Barbara (Welch) Fox and Patricia (Welch) Booker. He was loved by his daughter-in-law, Candace (Seeley) Welch; and son-in-law, Matthew Booker. His life was blessed by his six grandchildren, Christopher and Carly Burguess, Adam and Evan Welch and Zachary and Elizabeth Booker. He enjoyed the company of his five siblings, Phyllis Kelley, Floyd Welch, Marie Schmueckle, Mildred Jackson and Louise McLaughlin; as well as his sisters-in-law, Ruth Welch and Wilma Welch; and his many nephews and nieces. Throughout the years, his life was enriched by his many relatives and friends. Carl looked forward to his morning visits from his cousin, Elwood “Jug” Welch. He was predeceased by his parents, Harvey and Ella Welch; and his brother, Ervin Welch. A celebration of Carl’s life will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, with the Rev. Arthur Gowie officiating.
