FORT FAIRFIELD – Calrton A. Bricknell, 82, husband of Mrs. Marjorie A. Bricknell, died Saturday morning, Jan. 15, 2005, at a Caribou nursing facility, following an extended illness. He was born Jan. 21, 1922, at Brockton, Mass. the son of George and Rhoda (Bourne) Bricknell. Carl graduated from high school in Brockton, Mass., attended Cornell University and earned a master’s degree in science at the University of Massachusetts. Carl served in the U.S. Navy reserves during World War II as a lieutenant in active duty as a Grumman F4F Wildcat Fighter Pilot in the Pacific. Following World war II, Carl continued to serve as a Navy reservist and was married to Marjorie A. Gennaco on April 25, 1944. Carl was a dedicated member of the VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Fort Fairfield having served both as commander and chaplain. Carl was a member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Fort Fairfield and had served as tree warden on the Fort Fairfield Beautification Committee for 10 years. He had been employed for more than 20 years at the A & P Plant, in Fort Fairfield as plant manager and also worked for several years at the former Fort Fairfield Trustworthy Hardware and Higgins Market, in Fort Fairfield. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bricknell was predeceased by one brother, George Bricknell. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marjorie A. Bricknell of Fort Fairfield; one daughter, Patricia LeVasseur of Old Orchard Beach; one brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Jeanette Bricknell of Middleboro, Mass.; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 12:30-2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, at the Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a service of remembrance will be conducted at 1 p.m. by officers and members of the VFW and VFW Ladies Auxiliary Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Fort Fairfield. A Memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Susan Murphy officiating. A committal service will be held at the Main Veterans Cemetery, Caribou later in the spring. A time of fellowship will be held at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield, sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary and the Daughters of Isabella, Santa Maria Circle No. 427, Fort Fairfield, immediately following the memorial service.
