DEXTER – Dorothy Miller Bodwell, 73, of Dexter, passed away peacefully after a short illness Jan. 16, 2005, surrounded by her family, at the Hibbard Nursing Facility. She was born Jan. 3, 1932, in Portland, to George and Ruth Miller. She graduated from Deering High School and the University of Maine at Orono in elementary education. She taught for many years at the Garland Elementary School and the Dexter Primary School. She will be fondly remembered by her students for her bright, white, Keds. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter and belonged to many clubs and organizations throughout the years. She enjoyed reading, cooking, crosswords and crafts. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Vern; two sons, Larry, of Westbrook, Dennis and his wife, Lisa, of Kennebunk; a daughter, Sharon Palmer and her husband, Reg, of Exeter; six grandchildren, Luke, Eliza, Andy, Ashley, Emily and Meghan; two brothers, Bill and David; and five sisters, Sally, Marcia, Joanie, Judy and Ginny. She was predeceased by her parents, and one brother, Bob. As per her request a private committal service will be held at a later date in Portland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dorothy M. Bodwell Memorial Scholarship Fund to Donna Whalen, Dexter Regional High School, 12 Abbott Hill Road, Dexter, ME.
