SCARBORO and MELBOURNE, Fla. – Caro Babbidge Wentworth, 79, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, at Springbrook Nursing Care Facility, Westbrook, with family at her side. Caro was born Feb. 25, 1927, in Islesboro, the daughter of Courtney and Edith Leach Babbidge. She was a 1944 graduate of Islesboro High School where she played on the basketball team. She was employed for many years as a secretary for the U.S. government, Chevron Oil, Portland Pilots Inc., and as a hostess at Purpoodock Golf Club. Caro loved dancing and singing; notably country western music. She had an incredible ability to yodel. Caro also enjoyed traveling, gardening and knitting throughout her life. But the one thing she enjoyed most was a good party. She loved cooking and entertaining with friends and family. She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Capt. Howard L. Wentworth; her sister, Charlotte Wyman of Windham; daughter, Sharon Obie and her husband, Paul, of South Portland; grandsons, Brandon Obie of Saco, Justin Obie of South Portland and Anthony Sanchez of Miami and Boston; several nieces and nephews. Caro was predeceased by her sisters, Nancy Berry and Marilyn Roberts; and her brother, Eben Babbidge. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, at the funeral home. Burial will be private at Brooklawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Caro’s memory be made to The American Cancer Society, 1 Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086-1240.
