DETROIT and FELTON, Del. Carolyn E. Burton, 79, a lifetime resident of Detroit and just recently of Felton, Del., died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, at Green Valley Pavilion, Smyrna, Del. Mrs. Burton was born June 12, 1927, in Madison, to the late Eugene Field and Wynona Crocker Field. Mrs. Burton was a homemaker, a cashier in several country stores and had worked in a shoe factory. She also worked at the voting polls in the town of Detroit. Mrs. Burton was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Newport. Her favorite pastime was her family. She also enjoyed reading, tatting, cross stitching, knitting and crocheting. Mrs. Burton won several awards for her unique afghans and handmade dolls. She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Burton in 1998; her brother, Leon Field; and her sister, Kathleen Scott. Mrs. Burton is survived by her two sons, Pastor Dan Burton and his wife, Kathy, of Felton, Del., and David Burton and his wife, Reta, of Pensacola, Fla.; three sisters, Gladys Alger of Peachtree, Ga., Maxine Schissler of Detroit and Joyce Partridge of Kenduskeag; four grandchildren, John, Matthew, Jason Burton and Jessica Curtis; three great-grandchildren, Cody Burton, Rachael Curtis and Olivia Burton. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at the Calvary Baptist Church, Newport. Local arrangements by Torbert Funeral Chapels, Dover, Del.
