KINGFIELD – Carrie Stever Carey, 98, died Friday, Dec.16, 2005, at Knox Center for Long Term Care. Born Sept. 22, 1907, in Marblehead, Mass., the daughter of Frank Edward and Alice Leona Goodwin Stever. Educated in local schools, she was a graduate of Marblehead High School. On Nov. 7, 1924, she married Albert F. Carey. The couple eventually made their home and raised their family in Kingfield. While in Kingfield, Mrs. Carey was a member of the United Methodist Church, where she served as secretary of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Kingfield Stanley Museum and Literary club. For 79 years she was a member of the Rebekahs. She was also a past noble grand and past district deputy of both Marblehead, Mass. and Kingfield Order of Eastern Star. For several years Mrs. Carey worked for Dr. Covert in Kingfield, caring for his family. She was also employed by Judson’s Sugarloaf Motel in Carrabasett Valley, as a baker and short order cook. She and “Ma” Judson formed a very special bond, becoming traveling companions, traveling the entire U.S. together. During her 57 years of living in Kingfield, Mrs. Carey enjoyed many close friendships. Mrs. Carey was predeceased by her husband; two sons, Albert Carey and Louis Carey; one grandson, Richard Carey; one great-grandson, Todd Gaylord. She is survived by one daughter, Alice Leclerc and her husband, Joseph, of Sebastian, Fla.; four sons, Robert Carey and his wife, Theresa, of Mont Vernon, N.H., Henry Carey and his wife, Lucy, of Thomaston, Dexter Carey and his wife, Patricia, of Pittsburgh, Pa. and John Carey and his wife, Joan, of Cocoa, Fla.; 29 grandchildren, including two granddaughters, Terry Hunt and her husband, James, of Thomaston and Stacey Burch and her husband, John, of Rockland; 49 great-grand-children and 11 great-great-grandchildren. At this time no services are scheduled. Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland.
