KENNEBEC – Carroll W. Marston, went home to be with the Lord, his loving wife of 58 years, Marion (Fish) Marston and his daughter, Suzanne L. (Marston) Smith Jan. 16, 2006. He was born April 29, 1918, in Jonesboro, the first child of the late Orin and Nettie (Hatch) Marston. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II from May 1944 – Dec. 1945 in the 3rd Army 3rd Battalion 2nd Regiment Company K 5th Infantry Division. He proudly fought in the Bulge, Ardennes, and Central Europe Campaigns. He spent much of his life working on the Kennebec River as a clammer. He had a great love for the ocean. Carroll worked cutting wood, handling horses, and raking blueberries in the greater Machias area for many years. He worked also with Schoppee’s Dairy picking up and delivering milk. Carroll was a member of the Kennebec Baptist Church for many years as well as the VFW Post No. 11553. He had a talent for working with horses. He enjoyed working in the woods, and was an avid gardener. Carroll loved to hunt. He spent many years in the woods and passed his knowledge of hunting along to his family. Surviving are a son, U.S Airforce Retired Senior Master Sgt. Carroll P. Marston and wife, Anne, of Bangor and daughter-in-law, Audrey E. Marston of Veazie; a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and U.S. Airforce Retired U.S. Chief Master Sgt. Timothy Olive of England; and a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Tom Butler of Machias; nine grandchildren, Corinne Gilmore and her husband, John, of Yarmouth, Cynthia McDonald and her husband, Stephen, of Hudson, Mark Marston and his wife, Katherine, of Orono, Michael Smith and his fiance, Paula, of Jonesboro, Heather DiEgidio of Brewer, Sarah Smith and her husband, Michael, of Florida, Petty Officer Third Class U.S.C.G. Kristopher Olive and his wife, Jessica, of Virginia; special granddaughter, Lynn Marston and companion, Joe, of South Portland; and Matthew Butler of Machias; 10 great-grandchildren, Jessica and Jeremy Beal, Christopher Gilmore, Maggie and William McDonald, Elizabeth and Charity DiEgidio, Andrew and Evelyn Marston and Evan Smith; siblings, Phyllis Preston, Bernice Bowers and Colon Marston; many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends, Larry Hunter and Ida Fish and many other good friends. Carroll will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Carroll was also predeceased by siblings, Ardith Hurlbert, Ernest Marston, and Della Best. Visiting hours will take place 6-8 p.m. Thursday Jan. 19, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 6 Cooper St., Machias, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at the funeral home followed by burial with military honors at the Great Cove Cemetery in Roque Bluffs.
