SEARSPORT – Catherine Barnes La Rue, 78, died on All Saints Day, Nov. 1, 2005, at a Belfast hospital. Kate was born Aug. 21, 1927, in Washington, D.C. to the late Rev. Fred and Dorothy Barnes. Kate graduated from San Jose State University and taught for several years. She was teaching at Jackson College in Honolulu when she met her husband, Howard, who was in the U.S. Navy. They traveled back to California and had two daughters, then to Japan having another daughter and son. Kate enjoyed music, God’s world, and people. She was known by all to be gentle, intelligent, caring and content. She was greatly loved and will be sorely missed. Along with her husband, she ministered for 27 years at Emmanuel Church, Greenwood, and Holy Cross Church, Afton, Va. Kate is survived by her husband, Howard; four children, Carrie, Alexandra, Caleb and Monica; 12 grandchildren, and one great-grandson; her siblings John, Dorothy, Paul and Grace. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, Belfast. A service of worship will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Greenwood, Va. followed by her burial in the church yard.
