HAMPDEN – Catherine Geneva (Curtis) Craven, 84, wife of the late, Carl R. Craven Sr., passed away peacefully Dec. 20, 2004, at Harbor Hill in Belfast. She was born July 27, 1920, in Hampden, the daughter of Frank W. and Aldana (Philbrick) Curtis. Catherine had lived in Hampden for many years, and worked for S.A.D. No. 22 as a teacher’s aide for 10 years. She was an active member of the Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church, and over the years knitted and donated many scarves and mittens to the church. Catherine was also active in the Hampden Senior Citizens. She enjoyed knitting, flowers, and working in her flower gardens, but her focus in life was always on her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She is survived by her children, two sons, Alan W. Craven and his wife, Geraldine, of Winterport, and Frank S. Craven of Orlando, Fla.; four daughters, Sharon A. Boltrom and her husband, Frank, of Monroe, Marthanne G. Scribner and her husband, Frank, of Leesburg, Fla., Kathy-Jo Ottoshavett and her husband, Joseph, of Brookfield, Conn., and Shelley-Lou Craven of Brewer; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Carl R. Craven Sr. on Dec. 14, 1998; and by her son, Carl R. “Skip” Craven Jr. in 1984. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Dr. Debra J. Hanson, pastor of the Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church officiating. Interment in the springtime will be in the family lot at Chapman Cemetery, Newburgh, at a date and time to be announced.
