WINTERPORT – Catherine Marie (Kilgallon) Lavin, 88, passed away April 16, 2004, at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born March 28, 1916, in Plains, Pa., the daughter of Edward F. and Anna (McHale) Kilgallon. Catherine was a graduate of St. Anne’s Academy, Wilkes Barre, Pa., and Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pa. Catherine was a school teacher for 17 years at Fifth Street Junior High in Bangor. She was a longtime member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church of Winterport, was a former member of St. John’s Parish Council, Maine Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, Ave Maria Circle No. 422 Daughters of Isabella of Bangor and Winterport Woman’s Club, Winterport Historical Society, Maine Retired Teachers Association, and her local book club. She is survived by her children, John Edward Lavin and his wife, Joan, of Portland, Regina M. Lavin of Winterport, Christopher M. Lavin and his wife, Sandi Magill, of Hidelburg, Germany, Timothy J. Lavin and his wife, Lynda, of San Pedro, Belize, and by William I. Smith and his wife, Geraldine Dodson-Smith, of Winterport; nine grandchildren, Andrew A. Rush, Mary Catherine Smith, Jena E. Hutchinson, Edward F. Smith, Caitlin Kilgallon Lavin, Regina A. Lavin, Julia Lavin, Melanie H. Dodson and Erin A. Dodson; and one great-grandson, Joseph D. Hutchinson. Catherine was predeceased by her husband, John Thomas Lavin in 1977; by a daughter, Catherine Ann Smith in 1986; and by a brother, Edward Kilgallon. Visiting hours will be held, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where the Rosary will be recited by the Daughters of Isabella at 3 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Main Street, Winterport, with the Rev. Bob Valliancourt, pastor, celebrant. Interment will be in the family lot at Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport.
