MILBRIDGE and CHERRYFIELD – Catherine “Kay” Ham-mond Handy, 75, went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, May 4, 2007, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Ells-worth. Catherine was born June 2, 1931, in Columbia Falls, daughter of the late Frank and Bessy (Reed) Hartford. She was employed for many years as a nurses’ aide with Down East Community Hospital, Machias. Catherine enjoyed fishing, playing Beano, cards and dancing. She was predeceased by her first husband, Bernard Hammond Sr.; her second husband, Frank Handy; and a brother, Norman “Pud” Hartford. Surviving are her son, Pastor Bernard Hammond Jr. and wife, Hazel, of Baileyville and Columbia Falls; a stepson, Parris Hammond Sr. and wife, Sarah, of Columbia; two brothers, Keith “Pete” Hartford and wife, Arlene, of Gouldsboro and Lloyd “Jack” Hartford and wife, Lois, of Ellsworth; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Hartford of Columbia Falls; a granddaughter, Terry Fitzhenry and husband, Allan, of Cutler; two great-grand-children, Emma Rae and Abby Catherine Fitzhenry; many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at Forest Hill Cemetery, Harrington, with her son, Pastor Bernie Hammond officiating. Kay took great pride in her son’s decision to have a second career as a pastor, so in lieu of flowers, donations in Kay’s memory may be made to a United Methodist Church of your choice.
