BANGOR – Catherine “Becky” Margaret (Higgins) Reed, 94, passed away peacefully, Nov. 28, 2006, lovingly attended by her youngest daughter, Nancy, while at a Bangor nursing home. She was born May 13, 1912, in Denley, N.Y., the daughter of John J. and Martina (Harriman) Higgins. Catherine enjoyed painting, arts and crafts, and sewing. Over the years, she lovingly sewed many wedding gowns and Barbie Doll clothes. She also crocheted and knitted afghans for family members. Her greatest joy came from visits with family and friends. Catherine will be remembered for her cheerful nature, thankful attitude and radiant smile. Catherine is survived by her loving children, Tharon Carmichael of Rockland, Gilbert Reed and his wife, Marie, of Carmel, Neal Reed and his wife, Shirley, of Florida, Lois Tibbetts and her husband, Roscoe, of Florida and New Hampshire, Allan Reed and his wife, Carol, of Massachusetts, Nancy Chase and her husband, Dick, of Vermont; a sister, Mary Worcester and her husband, Donald, of Southwest Harbor; brother-in-law, Lester Hartford of Mount Desert, 20 grandchildren, 37 great-grand-children, 11 great-great- grand-children, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; a son, V. Douglas Reed; two daughters, Constance Morin and Christene Reardon; a sister, Anna Hartford; a granddaughter, Donna Morin; and great-grandson, Casey Reed. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, conducted by the Rev. Garnett Chute, pastor of the Hermon Baptist Church. Interment will be at Mount Prospect Cemetery, Stockton Springs.
