ELLSWORTH – Cecil Homer Pottle, 76, died March 12, 2006, at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born June 28, 1929, in New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Leigh A. and Bernice (Davis) Pottle. Cecil graduated from Machias High School in 1946. He joined the service, honorably serving in the U.S. Navy from July 1948-June 1952. He worked for many years with the A & P Supermarket. He was a member of the USS New Jersey Veterans Inc. BB62, the American Legion Post No. 207 and Lygonia Lodge No. 40, AF & AM. Cecil was a friendly outgoing man. He enjoyed winters in Florida and loved to travel. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine (Hurlbert) Pottle; a son, Leigh R. Pottle and wife, Barbara, of Williamstown, N.J.; a sister, Frances Hatt, of Machias; brother, Dale Pottle and wife, Muriel, of Whiting; sister-in-law, Maxine Pottle of Surry; three grandchildren, Amy, Melissa and Stephanie; and great-grandchild, Savannah; nieces, nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his first wife, Rita; a son, Robert; and brother, Merton “Bud” Pottle. At Cecil’s request a graveside service will be held at Longfellow Cemetery, Machias. Date to be announced.
