VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Cecil L. Pelkey, 44, passed away on Aug. 14, 2004, at his residence. He was born in New Britain, Conn., Aug. 4, 1960, he grew up in Mars Hill, and attended the local schools. He also served in the U.S. Army from 1980-1984, after which he resided in Virginia Beach. Cecil loved hunting, fishing, listening to Aerosmith, refinishing his Monte Carlo when his health permitted, and was also an avid Nascar Fan and loved to watch the races. Cecil is survived by his wife of 24 years, Catherine S (Crawford) Pelkey; and daughter, Jessica N. Pelkey of Virginia Beach. He had one sister, Denise J. Bonato and husband, Richard, of Presque Isle; three brothers, Gary L. Pelkey and Thomas M. Pelkey of Presque Isle, and Russell S. Pelkey of Mars Hill. Also surviving him is his grandmother, Frances Kilcollins of Mars Hill; his father and mother-in-law, LeRoy and Gloria Crawford of Mars Hill; sister and brother-in-law, Chrisiti and Michael Botting of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and brother-in-law, Roy Crawford of Mars Hill. Cecil was predeceased by his mother, Lois J. Pelkey; and his father, Gary L. Pelkey Sr.; and a special uncle, Stanley Kilcollins. He is also survived by two loving aunts, Sandra Haines of Woodland, and Lois Haines of Presque Isle, and also several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Cecil will also be missed by his faithful friend and companion “DUKE”, his pet Lab. Special Thanks to Dr. Michael Ryan and his staff and also The Doctors and staff at First Colonial Family Practice. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 18, 2004, at East Blaine Cemetery, Blaine.
