ALBION – Cecil R. Bradstreet, 86, died Aug. 16, 2008, in Waterville. He was born April 23, 1922, in Albion, the son of Seth H. and Ethel (Nelson) Bradstreet. He attended Albion schools and was a graduate of the University of Maine, Orono. He married Faylene M. Tobey of Palermo, Jan. 16, 1944. He worked at Deering Farm, Denmark and at County Extension Service, Orono. In 1947 he and Faye returned to Albion to operate their potato farm and raise a family of eight children. In Albion, Cecil was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a 71-year member of the Grange. He enjoyed sports and was an avid follower of Boston sports teams. He was always a student of current events, had a tremendous memory for local history and could carry on a conversation about any subject. He never missed doing his daily crossword; he worked on one during his last stay in the hospital. He especially liked local geography and any visitor could expect to be asked, “Now, which route did you take to get here?” He delighted in traveling Maine’s back roads and visiting with his many friends. He was a man who instilled in his children a strong work ethic, a deep sense of family loyalty and a love of learning. He will be greatly missed. For the past two years, Cecil made his home with his son, Randy and his wife, Lorna, in Albion. He was predeceased by his wife, Faye, in 2006; his parents; eight sisters and brothers, Clora Perkins, Gwendolyn Purington, Winifred Worthing, Frederick, Clair and Donald Bradstreet, Alberta Macklin and Lucille Sawlivitch; and a great-grandson, Nicholas Wright. He is survived by his eight children, Betsy Wright of Kingston, N.H., Patricia McNamara and her husband, Michael, of Cape Elizabeth, Suzanne Pineo and her husband, Stephen, of Chambersburg, Pa., Robert Bradstreet and his wife, Toni, of Albion, Richard Bradstreet and his wife, JoAnne, of Vassalboro, Tim Bradstreet and his wife, Roberta, of Gorham, N.H., Randy Bradstreet and his wife, Lorna, of Albion, and Jim Bradstreet of Fairfield; sisters, Ethelyn Russell of Winslow, Virginia Hutchins and her husband, Deane, of Veazie; and brother, Seth Bradstreet and his wife, Betty, of Dexter; as well as 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Surviving brothers and sisters-in-law are Kempton “Ben” Tobey and his wife, Roberta, of China, Priscilla Fontaine of Brighton, Mass., Pauline Tobey of Palermo, Shirley Tobey of Florida, Parker Smith of Winslow and Virginia Bradstreet of Albion. The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Forest West and the staff at Lovejoy Health Center, Albion and the staff at Maine General Hospital, Thayer Unit, Waterville. Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home-Winslow Chapel, 173 China Road, Winslow. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Number Four Cemetery, Albion, with a reception for friends and family after at the Besse Building, Albion.
