HOWLAND and OLD TOWN Celia Martin, 93, died Feb. 25, 2007, at a local nursing home after a long illness. She was born Dec. 6, 1913, in Old Town, the daughter of Amie and Josephine (Garceau) Ouellette. Celia lived in Old Town and Bradley most of her life. She was a communicant of Holy Family Parish, where she was also a choir member for many years. Celia was also an active member of the Daughters of Isabella, Old Town and the Senior Citizens Group of Old Town. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting and playing bingo. Celia worked at Labree’s Bakery, Old Town, when the firm was just getting started. She also worked at the Penobscot Shoe Co. and the University of Maine dining hall. Celia is survived by two sons, Robert Martin and his wife, Mary, of Bradley and Arthur Martin and his wife, Joyce, of Orrington; two grandchildren, Samantha Ryan and her husband, John, of Old Town and Mark Martin of Topsham; a great-grandson, Jonathan Ryan of Old Town; and a very special friend and sister-in-law, Meladore Ouellette of Old Town. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis; and two brothers, Maurice and Louis. Visiting hours will be held 9-11 a.m. Friday, March 2, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where the Daughters of Isabella will recite the rosary 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m., after visiting hours, at Holy Family Parish. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Parish Hall after Mass. Interment will be in the spring at St. Joseph Cemetery, Old Town. Celia’s family wishes to express their gratitude to Cummings Health Care Facility for the excellent care and compassion that the staff provided to Celia.
