DEER ISLE – Charlene F. Jones, 45, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at a Blue Hill hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 24, 1959, in Castine, the daughter of Henry C. and Letha F. (Nevells) Bray. Charlene was a member of Rockbound Rebekah Lodge No. 124 of Stonington. She enjoyed crocheting afghans, and making things with her hands. Charlene was a rugged, outdoorsy type and enjoyed garden birds, wildlife and nature. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, David J. Jones of Deer Isle; two sons, Alfred M. Carter Jr. of Windham, and Mark M. Carter of Deer Isle; three brothers, James Bray Sr. and his wife, Barbara, of Deer Isle, Timothy Bray Sr. and his wife, Nancy, of Stonington, and Dexter Bray Sr. and his wife, Christie, of Deer Isle; three sisters, Darlene Hardy and her husband, Neville, of Deer Isle, Rachel Place and her husband, Bud, of Hampden, and Mary Shields and fianc?, Steven Gatchell, of Stonington; a sister-in-law, Donna Bray of Brewer; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Charlene was predeceased by her first husband, Alfred M. Carter Sr. “Bud”; a sister, Jeanne M. Bray; and by a brother, Henry E. Bray. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Main Street, Stonington. Graveside services will be held in the springtime at the Knowlton Cemetery, Tea Hill Road, Stonington.
