HAMPDEN – Charles “Chuck” B. Palmer, 60, passed to spirit Aug. 2, 2006, at home with his loving wife by his side after a long and courageous battle with diabetes. He was born Nov. 9, 1945, in Bangor, the son of Charles and Thirza Palmer. Chuck was a self-made man with a gift of sharing his sense of humor with all who knew him. Chuck was a veteran of Vietnam, serving his country as a Marine and honorably discharged with the rank of Sargent. He received many ribbons and medals, including The Purple Heart Medal. He was multi-talented; no job was too big or too small for Chuck. He was able to master any job he put his mind to, and wouldn’t let any task best him. He was a plumber for many years. He worked at Bath Iron Works as a pipefitter and fabricator. He held positions as transportation supervisor for local school departments and various other part-time jobs. As his health declined, his sheer determination and strong will enabled him to continue to put his best foot forward and do what needed to be done. Chuck had a passion for life. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and was always looking for adventure, creating his own at times. His love of life and practical jokes were revealed daily, and to all who knew Chuck, he lived life his way, making his own choices right down to the very end. Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Patty; two sons, Chuck and his fiance, Cherie, of Fairfield and Chris and his wife, Georgia, of Winterport; four grandsons, Logan, Trevor, Trent and Corben of Winterport; stepson, Bob Beale of Bangor; sisters, Dilly Pierce and her husband, George, of LaGrange, Alberta Palmer of Saco and Evangeline Brown of Brooks; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins; and a special cousin, Annette Lovejoy. Chuck will also be missed by his faithful companions, Biscuit and Trouble; and his soul brother and fishing comrade, Jim. Chuck was predeceased by his parents Charles and Thirza Palmer. At Chuck’s request there will be no funeral or memorial service. His request was to have a celebration of his life so people could remember him doing what he loved to do best, being with his favorite people, sharing stories and jokes, surrounded by laughter. A time and place for this celebration will be announced at a later date. At Chuck’s request donations in his memory can be made by sharing a joke and laughter in remembrance of him.
