PASSADUMKEAG – Charles Case White, 92, passed away peacefully Oct. 18, 2007, surrounded by his family. He was born Feb. 2, 1915, in North Bancroft, the son of Charles and Bertie (Case) White. The youngest of 13 children, he moved to Passadumkeag at 13, after his mother and father passed away. He lived with his sister, Doris and her husband, Edgar Mace. He worked his way through school, graduating from high school in Howland. Basketball and baseball were his favorite sports in school and as an adult played for the town team in competition with area towns. After graduating, he found work locally. Soon after he was hired as a striker for Earl “Pike” Ware. They became partners and formed Ware and White in the pulp business, cutting wood lots, transporting wood by truck to local paper mills and also moving wood on the river down Passadumkeag Stream to a conveyor system that brought the pulpwood out of the stream and into railroad box cars. Later, Charlie worked for Prentiss & Carlisle and operated a grader until his retirement. Throughout his life he was always active in the community, serving as fire chief and was active in the grange for many years. His focus was always on family, work and friends, of which he had many. He loved life, family, work and a good meal, especially pie. After the love of his life, Winona “Honey” passed away in 1989, Charlie often received his cookies and pies from friends, townsfolk and relatives. He was predeceased by his wife, Winona Mace White; a daughter, Gail Ann; and his 12 siblings. He is survived by four children, Janet Leclair and husband, Butch, of Bradley, Marion White of Old Town, Galen White and wife, Gail, of Passadumkeag and Greg White and wife, Dianne, of Bucksport; 10 grandchildren, Darcy Beaver, Craig Moffatt, Leon Moffatt, Gordon and Belinda Moffatt, Laurie and Matthew Kennedy, Mark and Tina White, Jennifer White, Stacey White, Julie and Gibran Buell, and Jennifer and Terry Kunz; 12 great-grandchildren, Jacob Beaver, Rachael Moffatt, Christopher Lockwood, Whitney Runnels, Nathan, Seth and Ben Kennedy, Brandon and Brittany White, Rylee Smith, Morgan Trask and Duncan Kunz. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Gould Ridge Cemetery, Passadumkeag, with the Rev. Clayton Crocker officiating. Immediately after the services everyone is welcome for refreshments at the Community Building, Passadumkeag.
