CHERRYFIELD – Charles Edward Bayrd, Sr., 91, died unexpectedly Nov. 7, 2004, at his residence. He was born, March 23, 1913, in Steuben, the son of the late Enoch J. and Florilla T. (Leighton) Bayrd. Charles married Verna M. Farren Sept. 13, 1935. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1944-1946, in occupied Japan. Charles worked for 31 years for the Maine Central Railroad. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Verna M. (Farren) Bayrd; one daughter, Rena Bayrd King and husband, Gordon, of Otter Creek; two sons, Charles Bayrd Jr. and Ola, of Unionville, and Donald Bayrd and wife, Rona, of Milbridge; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Flora Bayrd; and brother-in-law, Roy Farren and wife, Martha, all of Cherryfield; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Bayrd; and a grandson, Jeffrey King. Per Charles’ wishes, there will be no funeral services.
