BRIDGEWATER – Charles K. Murphy passed away March 12, 2008, in the comforting presence of his sister, Ida Mae Parks, at Mars Hill Nursing Home. He was born Aug. 30, 1934, to Milan and Frances (Davidson) Murphy. Charles was a life long resident of Bridgewater. Charles was the epitome of an Aroostook County man, he cared for his family, was a good neighbor, gave an honest day’s work and found pleasure in the simple things of life. Charles enjoyed a well-prepared meal, a well-written story and the beauty of stamps and coins. He was an avid reader and enjoyed the challenge of crossword puzzles. His wry humor and breadth of self-acquired knowledge made him an engaging conversationalist. For many years, Charles worked for Bradbury Brothers, where he was regarded as a loyal and dependable employee. He brought these same traits to the U.S. Postal Service, where he was employed as a rural route carrier. He was forced to retire due to the progressive effects of multiple sclerosis. Charles was a graduate of Bridgewater Classical Academy. He represented the town for many years as a member of MSAD 42 and Bridgewater school system school boards. He used this position to better ensure that the children of Bridgewater received the best education advantages possible. He was an early champion for computers in the schools. Parks of Bridgewater, Mary Ann and Robert Sandefur of Virginia Beach, Va., Roger and Pam Murphy of Monticello and Guy and Jo Ann Murphy of Urbana, Ill.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. His family and friends are better for having Charles as an important part of their lives. At Charles’ request, there will not be any service, but a spring interment will be held at Smith Cemetery.
