ELLSWORTH – Charles Kirkpatrick Foster Jr., 83, died peacefully Dec. 2, 2007, at his home. He was born July 17, 1924, in Sargentville, the son of Charles K. Sr. and Mildred C. (Sargent) Foster. Pat graduated from Ellsworth High School, in 1941 and was a member of the Class of 1945 at the University of Maine at Orono, studying mechanical engineering. During World War II, he served as a U.S. Merchant Marine officer in the Pacific and later as a member of the Naval Reserve, retiring as a commander. After the war, he went to work at C.K. Foster Plumbing and Heating, Ellsworth. He worked there until his retirement in December 2006. Pat was also a major stockholder and president of Morrison Chevrolet, Ellsworth. Pat was active in the community, serving on the Ellsworth City Council; a founding member of Maine Coast Memorial Hospital serving in a variety of positions, including chairman of the board; member of Lygonia Lodge No. 40 and Anah Temple Shrine; president and longtime member of The Pot and Kettle; past president and board member of Maine Sea Coast Mission; longtime member and past president of Penobscot Associates; and past president of the UMO Alumni Association. Pat was involved in small community banking and regionalization of area banks, serving on the boards as chairman of the Liberty National Bank, Depositors Trust and Key Bank of Maine. He was a member of St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church. Pat had a great love for family, country and God. He is survived by four children, Jennifer Foster Libby of Bangor, Jacquelyn Sullivan Dearborn and her husband, Joel A. Sr., of Holden, Charles K. Foster III of Ellsworth, and Julie Robin Foster of Ells-worth. He is also survived by two grandsons, Joel A. Dear-born Jr. and his fianc?e, Nisha Thomas, and Jonathan S. Dearborn of Holden; and a sister, Augusta Foster Law, M.D. of Peterborough, N.H. The family is very thankful for the support that Pat had received from his dear friends and caregivers, especially Ruth, Vicki, Rachel, Mona and Mary during his past years. A reception for family and friends will be held 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Dec. 8, at Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. A private interment will be at Forest Home Cemetery, Sargentville.
