SEARSPORT – Charles Roland Gordon Jr., 74, of Searsport, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006, in Dixmont, after spending a pleasant day visiting relatives. He was born Feb. 15, 1932, in Hartford, Conn., the son of Charles R. Gordon Sr. and Gertrude P. (Sylvester) Gordon, a self-taught artist who owned Brock Farm in Searsport. He graduated from Searsport High School, Class of 1951. He was an excellent mechanic who enjoyed working on vehicles for his family and friends. His hobby was target shooting and loading his own ammunition. He enjoyed traveling, visiting friends, and was the first to volunteer a helping hand to others in need. He was a member of the Granite Grange No. 192 and past master of the Mariner’s Lodge AF & AM No. 68. He joined Co. E of the Maine State Guard at the age of 13 in 1945. He went on to become staff sergeant in the Air National Guard of Maine and sergeant in the U.S. Army National Guard. He graduated from Diesel Engineering School in Chicago. He worked for many years as a mechanic at Knox Brothers Exxon, Searsport and at C.A. Paul & Sons, Belfast. He was predeceased by his parents, and sisters, Charlotte Hatch and Pauline Nickerson. Surviving are his daughters, Sandra Gordon and husband, Hugh McLean, of Belfast, Donna Gordon and husband, Michael Ashey, of Belfast and Twila G. Knapp and husband, Dana, of Gray; his partner and fiance, Connie Drinkwater of Searsport; sisters, Barbara Nickerson of Swanville and Jackie Francis and husband, Carl, of Stockton Springs; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Arrangements are by Young Funeral Home, 31 West Main St., Searsport. Burial will be at Gordon Cemetery, Searsport, with a private memorial service by Pastor Art Cotton and Masonic rites. A celebration of his life will be held for family and friends 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, at the Masonic Hall, Searsport.
