ELLSWORTH – Charlotte Jane Harris, 88, passed onto eternal life Tues-day, Dec. 18, 2007. Born Jan. 6, 1919, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Mary Ellen Harris of Ellsworth. Miss Harris graduated from Ellsworth High School, in 1936. She entered the Army Nurse Corps and served for five years. She graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in nursing, and went on to work for Hebron Academy, Hebron, for 28 years as the infirmary nurse. Upon retirement, she volunteered for 10 years with the Senior Companion Program. Miss Harris was a great lover of the outdoors, enjoying many good times with her nieces and nephews at her camp on Branch Pond. She loved to fish, play golf and was a member of the Ellsworth Garden Club. She also enjoyed playing bridge. In her later years, she became an accomplished watercolor painter. She is survived by her many loving nephews and nieces, William H. Grindle of Otis, John E. Harris Jr. and Keith Harris of Ellsworth, Robert Harris of Vienna, William Harris of Portland, Ann Harris of Friendship, Jacquie H. Emerton of Ellsworth, Teresa Davis of Otis, and Pamela G. Holden of Charlottesville, Va.; many great-nieces and great-nephews; her brother-in-law, Hollis B. Grindle of Ellsworth; and her dear friend of many years, Margaret Cunningham. She was predeceased by her sister, Patricia M. Grindle; and two brothers, Alexander and John E. Harris. A memorial service will be held in the spring.
