BAR HARBOR – Charlotte K. Buff, 100, died Oct. 26, 2003, at MDI Hospital. She was born April 30, 1903, in Bar Harbor, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Ford) Kirk. She was predeceased by her husband, F. Stanley Buff, in 1972. Charlotte attended all the Bar Harbor schools and was a graduate of Boston University. For 36 years, she was a teacher and head of the Business Education Department at Long Branch Senior High School, Long Branch, N.J. After their retirement she and her husband returned to Mount Desert Island to live. She was a lifelong member of St. Saviour’s Church and a member of the Bar Harbor Garden Club, the Bar Harbor Historical Society, the Women’s Literary Club of Bar Harbor and the MDI Hospital Auxiliary. In August 2000, she was the recipient of the Bar Harbor Historical Society Cane, which is given to the oldest Bar Harbor native resident. Charlotte is survived by a niece, Dorothy K. Morrison of Davis, Calif., and a nephew, William H. Kirk and his wife, Mary Jane, of Waldwick, N.J.; grandnephew, William H. Kirk, Jr. of Chattanooga, Tenn.; grandnieces, Lisa Nowell and her husband, Kim Stanley Robinson of Davis, Calif., Alyson L. Kirk of Waldwick, N.J. and great-grandnephews, James and Christopher Bunting and their father, Denis Bunting of Santa Cruz, Calif., and David and Timothy Robinson of Davis, Calif. She was predeceased by a brother, G. Harold Kirk in 1972; a grandniece, Kate Nowell Bunting in 1996 and a grandniece, Carrie Lynn Kirk in 1997. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at St. Saviour’s Church, Bar Harbor, with the Rev. Jonathan Appleyard and the Rev. Edwin Garrett officiating. Interment will be at Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor. Contributions in Charlotte’s memory may be made to the Memorial Fund, St. Saviour’s Church, 41 Mount Desert St., Bar Harbor, ME 04609.
