NEWPORT, R.I. – Charlotte Sara Peirce, 86, formerly of Portsmouth, R.I., died April 10, 2008, at Village House Nursing Home, Newport, R.I. She was born Oct. 26, 1921, in Bangor, the daughter of Charles A. Peirce Sr. and Florence (Haynes) Peirce. She was a graduate of Bangor High School and the University of Maine, Class of 1943. Later she went on to receive her Master of Education from the University of Massachusetts, Fitchburg, Mass. She worked primarily as a therapeutic and teaching dietitian at various hospitals throughout New England, among which were the Veterans’ Administration Center, White River Junction, Vt.; H. D. Goodall Hospital, Sandford; and Burbank Hospital, Fitchburg, Mass. Charlotte enjoyed traveling with her sister, Jean, on cruises to Europe, as well as, trips around New England. She was an avid reader and an ardent sports fan and thoroughly enjoyed following the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, having attended many of their games. She was also a culinary expert and enjoyed entertaining her many friends with large sit-down dinners. She is survived by her brother, Charles A. Peirce Jr. Esq. of Palermo; her sister, Jean M. Peirce of Newport, R.I.; her nephew, Charles A. Peirce III of Bangor; her niece, Catherine A. Hopper; and her great-nephew, Christopher C. Hopper, both of Veazie; a special cousin, Lynne Hanhilammi of Columbus, Ohio; and many other cousins and friends. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, April 25, Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to a charity of choice.
