FORT KENT – Charlotte “Shirley” Dumond, 69, loving wife and mother, began living her fifth day, Aug. 14, 2007, surrounded by her family, after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer. She was born Nov. 16, 1937, in Allagash, the daughter of Gilbert and Dorothy (Hafford) Walker. She lived in Allagash until her early teenage years when her family relocated to Fort Kent. There she met and married her loving husband of 52 years, Normand, and is where they chose to raise their five children. She worked for 22 years as a certified nursing assistant/ medication administration technician. She was also involved in the Cursillo Movement. Charlotte is survived by her five children, Shirlene and her husband, Thomas Hill, of Palm Harbor, Fla., Kathy and her husband, Barry MacLeod, of Brewer, Roger and his special friend, Lori Chalila, of Westbrook, Terry and her husband, David Lebel, of Bucksport, and Debbie and her husband, Leo Lang, of Palm Harbor, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, Michelle and her husband, James Hunt, Ashley and Teddy Hill, Tara and Ian MacLeod, Tyla Dumond, Jesse and Caity Lebel, Nichole, Samantha and Alex Lang; and one sister, Greta and her husband, Roger Landry, of Woodland. She was welcomed on her fifth day by her husband, Normand, who’s been waiting for her since February- “come on, Shirl, hurry up”; one infant daughter, Doreen; both parents, two brothers, and one sister. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. Committal services will be held at a later date at the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Maine Cancer Foundation, P.O.
