JONESPORT and SOUTH PORTLAND – Charlotte White Woodward, 82, died peacefully, April 21, 2005, at the home of her daughter. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior after a lengthy illness. She was lovingly cared for, throughout her illness, by her girls. She was born Feb. 13, 1923, in the Masons Bay district of Jonesport, the daughter of Harvey E. and Maude White. After graduating from Jones-port High School with honors, Class of 1940, she worked in the office of Superintendent R.L. Brown. She also worked in Wellesley Hills, Mass., as a governess, before returning home to Jonesport to help her father operate his taxi service. She later worked as a clerk for R.H. Rogers store and was nick-named “Snow White” by Russell Rogers. Friends and family affectionately would often call her “SNOW WHITE”. On Oct. 6, 1946, she married the “love of her life”, Norman C. Woodward. They had two daughters, Sharon and Vaneesa. Charlotte will be remembered as a loving wife, a devoted “Mom”, and cherished grandmother and aunt. She was a person who helped others with their needs and openly showed her love for them, during times of joy and sorrow. She particularly enjoyed sewing, and was an accomplished seamstress…often “whipping up” new outfits for her girls in short order, as they were growing up. She was also a girl scout leader and Sunday school teacher. After living “away” from 1952-1976, assisting Norman in his career as a warden supervisor in the Maine Sea and Shore Fisheries, they moved back to Jonesport to enjoy their retirement years. Upon returning to Jonesport, she was employed for 11 summers as manager for the Jonesport Marina, State of Maine Dept. of Conservation. During retirement, she and her husband raised and sold blueberries and wintered in Florida. Charlotte was a member of the Sawyer Memorial Congregational Church. She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Woodward Brooke of Lincoln and Vaneesa Woodward Norton of South Portland; four grandchildren, Gregory Brooke of Lincoln, Tami Brook and her fianc?, William Stiles, of Turners Falls, Mass., and Hayley Norton and Ryan Norton of South Portland; three brothers-in-law, Charles Wood-ward of Jonesport, Wayne and his wife, Lucille, of Jones-port, and Arthur Woodward of Gray; two sisters-in-law, Geraldine Look of Jonesport, Barbara Hall and her husband, Lee, of Jonesport; a sister-in-law, Edith Woodward of Corea and Eileen White of Belfast. She was predeceased in August of 2004 by her husband of 57 years, Norman; her parents, a brother, Allan White; a sister, Myrtle Guptill; a son-in-law, Allen E. Brooke; and a beloved niece, Alana Norton. Very special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends will sadly miss her. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 24, at the Sawyer Memorial Congregational Church, Jonesport, officiated by Pastor George Wood-ward with Rev. Arthur Woodward assisting and Pastor Danny Davis organist. Charlotte was able to be home throughout her lengthy illness with the help of Hospice services of Machias CHCS, and VNA Home Health Care (from healing to hospice) of South Portland. Her family would especially wish to thank the RNs, Carla, Joanne, Peggy, Rhonda and Kelley. Also much thanks and appreciation to the Hospice volunteers, Eleanor, Spanky, Joanne, and “Cat”. Your love, kindnesses and devotions to Mom, will always be remembered. To Dr. Crowley and staff of the Eleanor Widener Dixon Memorial Clinic in Goulds-boro, and to Dr. Schwemm of Portland, we extend our heartfelt thanks in your wonderful care of Mom throughout the years. Memorial donations may be made to Community Health and Counseling Services, RR 1 Box 339A, Machias, ME 04654 or to VNA Home Health Care (from healing to hospice) 50 Foden Road, South Portland, ME 04106. I believe in the Holy Trinity, God the Father, Jesus the Son. And the Holy Spirit. “SHALOM.”
