OLD TOWN – Chester H. Wickett, 89, husband of Gertrude (Wilcox) Wickett for 65 years, died Nov. 8, 2003, at his home with his family. He was born Nov. 7, 1914, in Old Town, the son of J. Havalock and Annabelle (Littlefield) Wickett. Chester was a successful businessman. In 1939, he started Wickett’s Market in Old Town, until selling the store in 1947, and starting the North view Hotel in Old Town. In 1956, Chester started a coin-operated laundry, sold antiques, used furniture, Army surplus supplies, and rented rooms until a fire destroyed everything. In 1970, he bought a building in Milford where he continued to sell antiques and used furniture until his retirement. He was a member of the Holy Family Parish, Old Town. Surviving in addition to his wife, Gertrude, are three sons, James Wickett and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Milford, Chester Wickett and his wife, Pauline, of Stanford, Conn., and Michael Wickett and his wife, Cindi, of Old Town; two daughters Donna and her husband, Ronald Holbrook, of Freeport, and Mary Ellen Cunningham of Charleston; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Lena Wharff of Old Orchard. Services will be private for the family. Memorial donations in Chester’s memory may be sent to the Holy Family Parish Building Fund, 429 Main Street, Old Town, ME 04468.
