CARMEL – Clarence “Brownie” E. Brown, 65, passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, at a local hospital, surrounded by loving members of his family. Brownie fought a long and courageous five-year battle with cancer. He was born in Carmel, July 22, 1940, the son of Harold E. and Eleanor S. (Knight) Brown. Brownie was an avid sportsman. He liked fishing, but hunting was his first love. He very much enjoyed being outdoors and walking in the woods with his beloved dog, Hunter. He never got drawn for a moose permit, but was able to participate in moose hunts with many of his friends. He loved reading and Nascar racing. He fed the squirrels and many varieties of birds off our deck. He didn’t discriminate about who ate the food. He believed that whoever was hungry should eat. He loved watching the antics of the squirrels as they raided the “squirrel-proof” bird feeder. He also loved watching how the squirrels taunted Hunter, knowing that Hunter could never catch any of them. Above all, Brownie loved his family and he definitely got a great charge out of teasing and “tormenting” us all. Brownie is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Linda; two sons, Jimmi T. Brown of Carmel and Joseph R. Treadwell Sr. of Garden City, Kan.; two daughters, Toni L. Kirk of Canaan and Sherri L. Clark and her husband, Donald, of Holden; six grandchildren and two and a half great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joan “Jo” Emery and special friend, Al Bolster, of Carmel and Serean S. Clement and her husband, Craig, of Brewer; three brothers, Norman Brown and his wife, Emily, of Carmel and Harold M. Brown and his wife, Jane, of Beverly Hills, Fla. and Gary Brown of Bangor. Brownie was predeceased by his parents, Harold E. and Eleanor S. Brown; one sister, Lorraine E. Verrill of Carmel. He was also predeceased by two daughters, Sherri M. Brown and Tanya Crawford. We want to extend our very special thanks to Dr. Thomas G. Kandra. Dr. Kandra not only was Brownie’s respiratory doctor, but also his friend. We are so blessed that Dr. Kandra was involved in Brownie’s treatment and care. Friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Charles Hurst, pastor of the Apostolic Lighthouse Church, officiating. Interment will be in Ruggles Cemetery, Carmel. Gifts in his memory may be sent to CancerCare of Maine, care of Eastern Maine Charities, P.O. Box 404, Bangor, ME 04402-0404.
