BANGOR – Clarence Edward “Boog” Carroll, died Dec. 5, 2007. He was born Aug. 21, 1926, in Bangor, the son of Guy and Margaret (Hogan) Carroll of Houlton. He attended St. John’s Parochial School and John Bapst High School, Bangor. After attending high school in 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the Battleship New Jersey during World War II in the South Pacific. After the war, he was employed by Bangor & Aroostook Railroad for 39 years as a trainman/con-ductor, before retiring in 1987. He was married for 56 years to Winifred Strout of Bangor. He also enjoyed spending time at his camp on Schoodic Lake. In addition to both of his parents, Ed was predeceased by two of his brothers, John and Robert Carroll. He is survived by his wife, Winifred; his daughter, Linda and her husband, Frank Smith; three granddaughters, Kimberly Stairs, Melissa Stairs and Jaime Smith; two stepgrandchildren, Kelley McTague of Newport, and Chad Smith of Winterport; four great-grand-children; two brothers, Francis Carroll and his wife, Grace, of Florida, and Guy Carroll and his wife, Nancy, of Raymond; sisters-in-law, Lois Faloon and Fern Garner of Alexander; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Annie. Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 300 State St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, with Pastor Lee Witting officiating. Graveside services, with full military honors, will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. After the graveside service, friends and relatives are invited back to the Greenlawn Family Center for refreshments and fellowship. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Bangor Humane Society, to the Clarence Edward Carroll Memorial Fund.
