GUILFORD and DOVER-FOXCROFT – Clarence R. Herrick, 91, beloved husband of Barbara (Carr) Herrick, passed away Aug. 10, 2006, at a local nursing home, after a period of declining health. He was born April 5, 1915, in Harmony, the son of Don C. and Beulah (Leavitt) Herrick. After graduation from Harmony High School in 1933, he spent several years working in California with his cousins there. Returning home, he worked as a hand sewer in many of the local shops while following his passion for hunting, fishing, trapping and guiding. He joined the U.S. Army in November 1942 and was stationed in England with the 878th Chemical Co. Upon completion of service, he married Barbara Carr Nov. 9, 1945. They celebrated 60 years of marriage in November 2005. In 1962, he and Charles Rowell built “Rocket Lanes” bowling lanes in Dover-Foxcroft, moving his family there that fall. A lover of the outdoors, he retired in 1977 and continued to guide hunters from his camp in Wellington for more than 25 years. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, Cambridge, and the Anah Temple Shrine and Scottish Rite Bodies, Bangor. He also enjoyed antiquing, opening a small shop and attending every show in the area whenever possible. A kind and generous husband and father, he is survived by his wife, Barbara of Guilford; his daughter, Nadine Tuttle and son-in-law, Eric, of Guilford; stepgranddaughter, Samantha Redden; great-granddaughters, Miracle and Brianna, all of Glenburn; a brother, Paul and his wife, Barbara, of Harmony; a sister, Ruth Hamlin of Bingham; many nieces, nephews and friends whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his cats, Spooky and Inky, who were very special to him. He was predeceased by brothers, Phillip in 1968 and Samuel in 1998; and brother-in-law, Floyd Hamlin in 2006. Friends are invited to call 1 p.m. until time of service 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, with Pastor David Mumford officiating. Burial will be in the family lot at Sugar Hill Cemetery, Harmony.
