VAN BUREN – Claude L. Fongemie, 85, died Jan. 15, 2006, at a Caribou hospital. He was born April 2, 1920, in Cyr Plantation, the son of Xavier and Melvina (Blier) Fongemie. He had worked as a machinist lead man for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in Connecticut for 30 years. Claude was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion, Levasseur-Farrell Post 49 of Van Buren. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1635 and the Fourth Degree Assembly of Van Buren. He is survived by two daughters, Claudette Fongemie of Clayton, N.C. and Lyn Cunningham and her husband, Jeff, of Wallingford, Conn.; one son, Richard Fongemie I of New Hartford, Mo.; two brothers, Albert Fongemie of Van Buren and Jules Fongemie of Bristol, Conn.; two sisters, Rose Dickerson of Van Buren and Florence Beaulieu of Massachusetts; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Priscilla (Gagnon) Fongemie in 1991. Relatives and friends may call 9 a.m. Thursday, until time of service, at the Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, at the St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Interment will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
